“That boy’s too old for you, Marie. He ain’t nothin’ but trouble!”
“Oh, Daddy…“
Her father watched as they peeled out of the driveway in Leon’s Corvette.
Rather than seeing a movie, they “went parking” at Tucker Lake. Marie was disappointed, but maybe Leon just wanted to talk & get to know her better.
She kept quiet.
Marie had drunk beer before, but it never made her feel this weird.
She noticed her clothes were coming off and tried to tell Leon to stop but the words stuck in her mouth like peanut butter.
As the world twirled and spun on its ear
Marie’s heavy eyelids lifted just enough
to see the barrel of Daddy’s shotgun
Jammed in Leon’s
wax-filled ear.
