Angie

Nicky Hopkins played piano on this track. He became part of the band’s inner circle after working on the 1966 Stones albumย Between The Buttons.ย >>

Ain’t it time we said goodbye, yeah?

What a fantastic choice! I wouldn’t have thought about it, but I love this song always have. The drama about where it came from just makes me love it more. And I have no trouble believing bowie and jagger were together, they were young guys living a dream- and all that sexual spontaneity is a big part of those dreams at that point in a young man, or woman’s life.

Agreed. I always thought they “did it” too.

Thanks for selecting this song today, Susan as I always enjoy listening to it. The life of a rock star is very different from what normal people live and Angela Bowie once said, “I used to get some pretty strange phone calls from Mick and David at three in the morning, inviting me to join them in bed with four gorgeous black women … or four gorgeous black men.” Great post, explaining all the intricoes of this song.

A great song, one of their best, and a good choice for the theme.

Susan, I love back story you provided on the song. I remember reading that part in Keith’s book and thinking ah so that’s who the song is about. I’ve always loved “Angie.” Rock and Rollers MUST have ballads as part of their live repertoire. So cool on Keith’s daughter finally becoming an Angie :)

Really? I think it’s a pretty song. That, and “As Tears Go By.”

I was never a fan of theirs really, though a dear friend from years back did a fantastic impression of Jagger.

I like a lot of their music. Wild Horses is my favorite.

I didn’t know it was one of theirs for years and is very good. Susan Boyle’s version is fabulous as I love strings and the arrangement is top notch for that.

That’s what I’ve heard. I’m going to have to listen to it.

Excellent backstory, Susan. Jagger & Bowie had a definite chemistry which was very obvious in their duet “Dancing in the Street. Bowie was Bi; that was no secret. I wouldn’t be at all surprised by some sexual exploits or even an affair between these two. Great song choice.
