Bubba was just about the unluckiest person in Opp, Mississippi. Or maybe he was the luckiest, depending upon how you look at it.
It was Friday the 13th, and Bubba was hard at work as a roofer. He was pounding nails into a pitch roof and was unaware that someone had moved the ladder. When lunchtime rolled around, he had no way to get off the roof.
Bubba was stuck.
He hollered for his co-workers, but no one was around. They all must’ve gone for lunch. No, they didn’t! This was Friday and the crew knocks-off early on Fridays.
Dadgummit!
Then, he remembered his cell phone!
Yay!
Bubba dug the cell out of his pocket and promptly dropped it. He watched it tumble off the roof onto the ground.
Awwwww. Now whut?
Bubba was at a loss. The sun was beating down on him, and he had no water. There was not a soul in sight. Then, he spied the trampoline in the backyard. He wondered if he could make it. He decided he didn’t have a choice. It was either jump and hope for the best or get burned to a crisp like a piece of bacon on this stupid roof.
So, he jumped. Fortunately, he landed square on the trampoline. He bounced around a bit, which he thought was fun until the final bounce, which launched him into the deep end of the swimming pool.
He found it most refreshing but then remembered he couldn’t swim. Luckily there were some floaty toys in the pool, and he managed to dogpaddle over to the unicorn. He grabbed onto it and when he did, he accidentally rubbed against the air hole and unplugged it. The unicorn began shrinking, shrinking and finally deflated as Bubba held on tight to nothing.
“Don’t worry, Mister!” A neighbor kid shouted. “I’ll save you!”
With that, a boy of about 13, dove into the water and dragged Bubba to the shallow end of the pool where was able to stand up.
Bubba was out of breath from the dogpaddling and stress. “Gee, thanks, kid. You saved my life!”
The kid was already out of the pool and jogging home. “Glad to help, Mister!” He threw over his shoulder.
That day, Bubba learned a valuable lesson: Never get on a roof without a life jacket.
