    Fibbing Friday | 04/09

It’s Fibbing Friday again! Time to put your hip boots on and wade through the bs. Di of Pensivity 101 fane is our host today. This week’s questions are below.

    What is a black hole?

A black hole is the mysterious place where socks are orphaned, to where ghosted boyfriends and girlfriends disappear, and algebra was invented.

    2. Why are we said to be green with envy?

It wouldn’t make sense if we were yellow, red, blue, or orange with envy.
    3. Where will you find the yellow brick road?

The Yellow Brick Road is a place where stray dogs gather to pee. Just follow your nose and don’t slip on the wet bricks.

    4. What is a red herring?

A herring who was banished from his home waters and now lives in the Red Sea.

    5. What is carte blanche?

Carte Blanche is another word for French Anarchy.

    6. What are parma violets?

    Light purple Italian crayons.

    7. Who was Scarlett O’Hara?

She was the wanna-be Southern Belle drama queen who sat next to me in 3rd grade.

    8. Why are smurfs blue?

Hemophilia. Too many kissing cousins, too often.
    9. What is a black and tan?

It’s an odd concoction that Gerry Adams and his Sinn Féin buddies drink every Easter.

    Gerry Adams

    10. What is a strawberry blond?

Similar to a strawberry roan, but ditzy.

  • The Road Fork

    The Road Fork

It’s Poetics Tuesday over at the dVerse Poets Pub. MsJadeLi of the Tao Talk blog is our host. Today our mission is to explore diverging connections between things in poetry. Of the three options, I’ve decided to take a crack at the Diamante poetry form.

    Friend

    Faithful, Honest

    Sharing, Trusting, Caring

    Ally, Confidante, Liar, Backstabber

    Fighting, Yelling, Hurting

    Nasty, Evil

    Enemy

I’m not sure how I feel about this piece. I enjoyed trying out a new poetry form, but something feels off. Maybe I didn’t choose the right topic. Or maybe it takes some practice. Thanks, JadeLi!

    Fibbing Friday | 4/02

Welcome to the first Fibbing Friday of April! Today, our host is PCGuyIV of the Thoughts & Theories blog. In case you need a refresher or are new here, the idea is to answer the questions below as creatively as possible. Of course, there is one catch: your answers must bend, break, stretch, or outright ignore the truth! It is called Fibbing Friday after all! Once you’ve done that, link back to this post with your answers so that we can all share in your creative fibbing skills. Pingbacks are enabled, or you may just leave a link to your reply in the comments below. Also, be sure to check out how others have responded. Half the fun is seeing what others have come up with!

    1. Why is April Fools Day on April 1st?

If it were on any other day, it wouldn’t be April Fool’s Day.

According to the old adage, exactly what do April showers bring?

April showers bring rainbows and unicorn faerie dust farts.

    What is a Haiku?

Many years ago during the Summer of Love in San Francisco, there was this guy named Ku. When his friends saw him, they’d say Hi, Ku! One guy who was partial to Magic Mushrooms, fancied himself a poet and started writing poems about the hrase Hi, Ku! Somehow an ‘A’ was added and it became Haiku.

How did the tradition of hiding eggs on Easter begin?

Pagan chickens started the whole thing. One morning on Old McDonald’s Farm, an alpha chicken named Hulga thought it would be funny to hide the other hens eggs and make them look for them. In order that each hen would find her own eggs, Hulga wrote their names on them with ifferent colored Sharpies. Hulga had opposable thumbs which enabled her to write and was also why she was the alpha chicken.

Why is it a tradition to serve lamb on Easter?

As a Jewish person, I can only guess at this. After ten minutes of deep thought, I think it had to do with that little lamb who followed Mary around. This is why it’s always better to be a leader than a follower.

Why is the season between winter and summer called spring?

I think it’s because when the weather warms up, weeds and flowers pop out of the ground. They spring up, kind of like mattress springs.

Since March just recently ended, what is meant by the old adage, “In like a lion, out like a lamb”?

I don’t know. I think I pulled a muscle in my brain. I’ll bet that alpha chicken would know. Or maybe the Poet on Mushrooms from question #3.

What is meant by the phrase, “trial by fire”?

What is the difference between fact and theory?

Not much, once you factor in Alternative and Fake News. Whichever is your own personal truth becomes a fact. Truth has become subjective.

    What is a postulate?

Postulating is what we do here every Friday.

It’s time once again for Share Your World hosted by Melanie of SparksFromaCombustibleMind fame. The questions and answers are below.

    What is knowledge?

In my opinion, knowledge is gained through education and studying while wisdom is something you gain over time and through experience.

How do you define consciousness (self awareness)?

I think consciousness is the awareness of who you are innately, what you are doing, and being mindful of other’s feelings.

Is it possible to prove that other people besides yourself have consciousness?

I don’t think so. It seems you’d have to get inside their heads to be able to prove something like that.

Would you be able to tell if time had been altered in some way?

No. Time has a way of getting away from me. In fact, I don’t even bother changing the clock in my car for Daylight Savings Time. I’d just have to change it again in six months, so why bother?

Do you like potato chips (they’re called ‘crisps’ in Europe I believe)?

No. I don’t much care for greasy and/or salty things.

    Gratitude

I am grateful to have made it through the tornado last week, physically unscathed. I am also grateful that we were only without power for a few days.

  • Our Road: A Villanelle

    Our Road: A Villanelle

This week’s prompt at MindlovesMisery Menagerie is to write a response to the phrase, “The End of the Road.”

The end of our road came too fast.

Despite road bumps and hairpin turns—

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

Time spread its wings and flew right past,

    In thoughtless splendor unconcerned.

The end of our road came too fast.

    The once-blue skies now overcast,

    Rain falls without rainbow’s return.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

I did not say yes when you asked,

    Jagged rip in my heart still burns;

The end of our road came too fast.

If only we could only change the past

For this wish I will always yearn.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

To dreams of you I shall hold fast

In my mind the memories burn.

The end of our road came too fast.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.
