• Hollow Substance

    March 5, 2019

Written for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai

    cherished memories

of better times and best friends

    all lost to me now.

    Reality or a mind’s eye tweak —

    does it matter?

  • Beach Diamonds to Art Deco

    March 3, 2019

For this Renga With Jane Reichhold, Chèvrefeuille has chosen six (6) haiku from her online Saijiki “A Dictionary of Haiku”. Here are the haiku to work with:

    beach diamonds

    a new day crystallized

    in sunny surf foam

    colony of seagulls scrapping

    over yesterday’s French fries.

    white pussy willows

    above a muddy swollen river

    fat raindrops

    flatten their bouffant hair-dos

    droop like soggy cotton balls.

    light carried in my arms

    apple blossoms from a neighbor

    on my doorstep

next to fresh bottles of milk

    and the morning paper

    Tai Chi on the beach

    one gull watches

    with outstretched wing

    moral support is found

    in unexpected places

    between the fields

a break in the evening mist

    three lilac bushes

    call attention to themselves

    shimmering in scented dew

    shades of art deco

    lying on the beach

    abalone shells

    a pastel kaleidoscope

    without the thunderstorm

  • Buddha Magic

    February 27, 2019

Today at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, our challenge is to create a Tan Renga from the Haiku below by Jane Reichhold.

    shapeshifting magical breezes

    the Buddha is breathing

  • Grandfather Koi

    February 26, 2019

Today’s goal at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai is to first create the 2nd stanza followed by a three lined stanza and a two lined stanza. Here is the haiku to work with:

    ah! morning glories
are at their best while I chant
    my morning prayers  © Kyoroku

    near a sparkling koi pond

    dragonflies land on lily pads.

    Grandfather koi swims

    lazily with younger fish

    his large tail jostling

    lily pads; dragonflies startle!

  • Heart Grief

    February 25, 2019

Carpe Diem Haiku Kai :This haiku (or maybe more a senryu) isn’t really easy to work with, so this will be a “real” challenge to make the Tan Renga complete.

    who is it that grieves,

the wind blowing through his beard,

for late autumn?  (c) Matsuo Basho (Tr. R.H.Blyth)

    broken heart will break again

    over sunshine and happy daisies
