    20/20

    January 10, 2021

Connie perched on the roof of the 7th-story BFD Goodritch building. Her armpits were moist and her silk blouse stuck to her skin. At least a cool autumn breeze took the edge off a bit. She got into position and scanned the street below for a silver Cadillac. There were three of them parked in a line but the one she was interested in had a smashed tail light which made it easier to distinguish.

Through the scope of her Steyr SSG 69 sniper rifle, she drew a bead on its driver and took a deep breath.

    And squeezed the trigger.

The rifle kicked, glass shattered, and blood splattered. The driver’s side door fell open and and her target tumbled onto the asphalt in a heap.

Soon, a crowd began to gather and Connie could hear sirens in the distance.

Next, the drivers of other two Cadillacs started their engines.

Connie broke into a sweat and nearly threw up. What the hell?

Quickly, she grabbed her binoculars, praying to God that her eyes decieved her, but no. Not this time.

The Cadillac with the smashed tail light was just pulling away from the curb.

It’s time once again for the fabulous One Minute Fiction Challenge, hosted by Cyranny! The writing prompt is the image below.

What’s the ”One Minute Fiction” challenge about?

Easy. Each week I’ll provide a prompt to inspire you to write a very short story. The idea is to manage to type your whole story in a minute or less. Of course, you can think about it before hitting the keyboard, and you can take all your time to edit it afterwards…

Just make sure to tag your story with #1MinFiction, and create a pingback to Cyranny’s challenge post.

    She’d finally made it:

Nicki’d worked damn hard for this moment and it had finally come: a sold-out concert, paparrazzi snapping photos that would be plastered all over social media by tomorrow, and the crowd out of its collective mind.

It’s a shame she was too high to remember any of it.

I’m one of your most dangerous secrets.

    A guilty pleasure kept
    safely under the covers and

silent as a lie. Be mindful

  • Panama Sage

    Panama Sage

    January 3, 2021

This week over at Song Lyric Sunday, Jim has asked us to choose a song beginning with the lietters P or G. So, I chose Panama Red, by New Riders of the Purple Sage.

    Lyrics

    Chorus
    Panama red, panama red
He’ll steal your woman, then he’ll rob your head
    Panama red, panama red

    On his white horse, mescalito
    He come breezin’ through town
I’ll bet your woman’s up in bed with
    Panama red

The judge don’t know when red’s in town
    He keeps well hidden underground
    But everybody’s acting lazy
    Falling out and hangin’ ’round

    My woman said, “hey pedro
You’re actin’ crazy like a clown”
    Nobody feels like working
Panama red is back in town

    Chorus

    Everybody’s looking out for him
    ‘Cause they know red’s satisfies
Little girls love to listen to him
    Sing and tell sweet lies

But when things get too confusing, honey
    You’re better off in bed
And i’ll be searching all the joints in town for
    Panama red

    Chorus

    The Story

    • New Riders of the Purple Sage performed with the Grateful Dead in the beginning of their career, and Jerry Garcia playing pedal steel guitar early on in the band. Originally this was played by Jerry Garcia with Peter Rowan in Old And In The Way in 1973. After Jerry Garcia stopped performing with New Riders of the Purple Sage, they recorded and premiered it on The Adventures Of Panama Red.
    • As much as this song is commonly mistaken to be about a disease, it is actually about a type of marijuana during the ’70s. The song mentions the story of “Panama Red” who comes into town and starts to make people act crazy. Panama Red is the marijuana. ~ SongFacts

The Adventures of Panama Red is the fourth country rock album by the New Riders of the Purple Sage, released in 1973. It is widely regarded as one of the group’s best efforts, and reached number 55 on the Billboard charts.

The album includes two songs written by Peter Rowan — “Panama Red”, which became a radio hit, and “Lonesome L.A. Cowboy”. Another song, “Kick in the Head”, was written by Robert Hunter. Donna Jean Godchaux and Buffy Sainte-Marie contribute background vocals on several tracks. ~Wikipedia
