Micronation, Anyone?

Today’s writing prompt at The Daily Post is the word “base.”

**

The concept of launching a micronation fascinates me. Not just a cyber-nation that exists only online & in the imagination, but a real one like the Republic of Molossia.

You’ve probably never heard of it, but Molossia is located in Nevada near Virginia City. not only that, but it is at war with Eastern Germany, and you can even buy war bonds to assist in the effort.

Who knew?

The Republic of Molossia is one of many.

Imagine designing a flag, a coat of arms, postage stamps and currency. Of course, you’d have figure out what  to call it, the type of government you wanted–from democracy to anarcho-capitalism–and then develop diplomatic relations with other micronations.

You could even designate an official language, like the now-defunct Republic of Rose Island did when it instituted Esperanto. This micronation was situated on a man-made platform in the Adriatic Sea. Rose Island restaurant & bar, nightclub, and a post office. Learn more about that, here.

And then there is Ladonia, which is located in Kullaberg, Sweden. It has a newspaper, Facebook Page, and embassies in Germany, France, and Iceland. It also has a national  anthem, Throwing a Rock into Water.

The more I research this subject, the more I want a micronation of my own. Why should everyone else have all the fun?
