Street Instinct

Today’s challenge at MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie is Same Same But Different
Your ‘Same Same But Different’ task is to take the five challenge words and NOT use them in your writing. That’s right, you need to dig out your thesaurus and find a synonym for each word instead.

Your words this week are:

  1. blanket
  2. cushion
  3. cold
  4. ball
  5. person

The snow was beginning to stick to the sidewalk and streets. An elderly woman wrapped in a tattered quilt shuffled carefully along the sidewalk. Her old rubber boots were a couple of sizes too big and she feared slipping and falling again. The sun was going down which meant the temperature would drop soon. The snow was coming down harder now, in bigger, wetter flakes.

Last month when she fell, there was a gentleman behind her who caught her and boke her fall. She glanced behind her; this time, there was no one.

A sudden, frigid breeze came up and the woman wrapped herself tighter in the quilt. She was two blocks away from the shelter.

Oh, I  hope there’s room!

She passed a group of children building a snowman in their front yard. She stopped for a moment to watch them, smiling as she remembered when she had a family and…

BAM!!!

A round chunk of ice mixed with snow hit her hard on the side of her head. Startled and acting on street instinct, she whipped out the small pistol she carried for protection and fired a couple shots at the snowman.

Little bastards.

    Ouch. Unexpected.
Instinct is not always protected by intuition.
