Buttonwood

It’s Quadrille #83 over at the dVerse Poets Pub. Today’s writing prompt is to create a quadrille using the word sun.

Willow tree leaves flutter

graceful silvery greenโ€” not

quite shiny.

Two young butterflies at play

dipping, diving, spiraling through the air.

A field of sunflowers turn

their faces skyward

as if the sun

had whispered their names

one by one

to the summer wind.

What a lovely poem, Susan. I have willows in the front yard so know about the silvery green fluttering. The sunflower faces as if being called by the sun, I really like that.

Thanks, msjade. I love weeping willow trees, and wish I could have one but the yard isn’t big enough. Maybe some day…

“As if the sun had whispered they names…” When I garden, I often find myself thinking how much beauty exists without ever being notices: each individual flower. So it is with us humans. Lovely

I love sunflowers and to walk in a field of them is magical and uplifting. I visited one last summer and I was absolutely awestruck by them.

Iโ€™m looking out of the window as I read this, Susan, at the fluttering,
graceful silvery green leaves of our corkscrew willow, the sun shining on them, morning dew glistening on the lower ones. No butterflies yet, but there will be later. And then you stun me with sunflowers!
