The Carrier

Tonight at the dVerse Poets Pub, we are celebrating the color Red. Sarahsouthwest is our host tonight.

Yeah. Red.

Red reminds me

of you. That careless

blur of candy-slut-red

lipstick that tainted your

white-on-white shirt.

I got rid of

the stain โ€”

but you failed

to get rid of its carrier.

Crimson Red.

Like my face

upon the realization

that everyone knew

(even your mother!)

but me.

Hot Carmine

blood raging through

my veins

like wildfire as

I load

my Glock 43.

A woman’s scorn, indeed; great use of the red prompt, and exciting POV with the message, Woe to the man who cheats on you.

Actually, my alter ego Shelley, wrote that. I’m quite the opposite. In any case, so glad you enjoyed!

I liked description of the stain on the shirt being removable, but not the one who made the stain.

I like the red attitude in your poem, Susan, and all the different shades. These lines are ominous:
    ‘I got rid of
    the stain โ€”
    but you failed
to get rid of its carrier.’

I like that final line to the poem. Red is my favorite color and you played it up in all its meaning.
