Lost & Found

It’s Song Lyric Sunday again! This week, Jim has asked us to choose a song with the words coffee/latte/cappuccino/espresso/mocha in the lyrics. After almost no deliberation, I decided on I Found Someone of My Own by The Free Movement.

The Story

The song was written by Frank F. Robinson and performed by The Free Movement. It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on the US adult contemporary chart, and #20 on the US R&B chart in 1971.[1] The song was featured on their 1972 album, I’ve Found Someone of My Own.[2]

The song was produced by Joe Porter and arranged by Jimmie Haskell and Michael Omartian.[3]

The single ranked #27 on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1971.[4]

Lyrics

I got up this morning
While I was having my coffee
My woman came in, sat down by my side
With tears in her eyes
She said ‘I’ve a confession to make.’
I said ‘Woman, speak what’s on your mind.’
She said ‘I’ve found somebody new
To take your place.’
‘I said don’t feel so all alone
I’ve found someone of my own.’
‘All those lonely nights
You left me all alone
My true love would call
And talk to me on the phone.’
I said ‘Woman, if that’s the way it’s gotta be
Then darlin, don’t you worry about me.’
She said ‘ I’ve found somebody new
To take your place.’
‘I said don’t feel so all alone
I’ve found someone of my own.’
I got up from the table
Reached down and wiped the tears
From her face
I put out my cigarette
Turned and walked away
She said ‘I’ve found somebody new
To take your place.’
‘I said don’t feel so all alone
I’ve found someone of my own.’

  3. Susan I love this song, thanks for sharing it. They each will start new lives and maybe they will be happier, but the grass always looks greener on the other side of the street.

  4. Not heard the song before, and hadn’t even heard of the group. I imagine this song tells the story of many a relationship, sadly!
