The Road Fork

It’s Poetics Tuesday over at the dVerse Poets Pub. MsJadeLi of the Tao Talk blog is our host. Today our mission is to explore diverging connections between things in poetry. Of the three options, I’ve decided to take a crack at the Diamante poetry form.

Friend

Faithful, Honest

Sharing, Trusting, Caring

Ally, Confidante, Liar, Backstabber

Fighting, Yelling, Hurting

Nasty, Evil

Enemy

I’m not sure how I feel about this piece. I enjoyed trying out a new poetry form, but something feels off. Maybe I didn’t choose the right topic. Or maybe it takes some practice. Thanks, JadeLi!

  2. I think you did it just right Susan. What I like about the diamante is that it gets you clarifying what’s in your head about certain ideas and concepts. With your two choices, you probably know right away if you consider someone a friend or an enemy — but why?

This is beautifully done! Nowadays there is a newer concept of a frenemy which I personally believe is more dangerous. How do we possibly test their loyalty?

  4. I think you did a fine job, and especially so since the “shift” line contains ” confidante / liar” which I think is perfect because so many lies are spoken “in confidence”. My hat’s off.

  6. I think you did well, like Ron said: the turn comes in the middle when you mistake a liar for a confidante. This way we find out who our enemies are!
