St. Xerox

It’s Blue Tuesday over at the dVerse Poets Pub, hosted by Sarahsouthwest.

So tonight, let’s write blue. A splash of blue, an ocean of blue, a shimmer of blue. Gaze into the distance, or look down at the sapphire on your finger. Take us to the Blue Ridge Mountains or the Blue Lagoon. Hand me a Blue Monday cocktail, slap some blues on the jukebox and let’s poem.”

Navy blue jumper:

Catholic school uniform.

Thou shalt not stand out!

Nuns rebuked unique.

Individuality

Thou shalt be alike!

….and a legion of little Catholic girls had to learn individuality in spite of the nuns!

Most British school had navy blue jumpers when I was at school – it has got more colourful since. But navy blue jumpers and skirts do bring back my school days, as did your poem, Susan!

Mostly. I hated the uniform though.

Wearing the same thing every day was mind-numbing. Thank God I only had to do it for 4 years.

It’s such a cute picture though! Like Kim says, British schools all have uniforms: I hated being forced to conform, and have been rebelling against it ever since. I do think my kids would look cute in school uniform though…

Maybe it wasn’t the uniforms themselves, but what they represented. Plus those vicious nuns. Ugh!

Sorry about the freak out. It was a horrific time, for certain.
