
“Gee, Bronwyn,” Michaela said, peering into the water. “He’s been down there a long time.”
“Doesn’t look like he’s coming back up, does it?”
“I’m scared!” Michaela’s pale blue eyes welled up.
“Of what?” Bronwyn demanded. “It was Bobby’s fault for throwing stones at us!”
“I didn’t have to bash his head in!”
Bronwyn shrugged. “You didn’t mean to do it, plus, nobody saw anything…and we buried the brick.”
The two girls gazed at the water in silence.
“Bobby’s a goner.”
“Yeah,” Michaela shivered. “Do you think they’ll figure it out?”
“No…” Bronwyn grinned. They didn’t last time, did they?
