At their first recording session they recorded the 12-bar blues “Black Slacks”, with Paul Anka (who had been recording in the studio earlier that day) as an uncredited background singer. [citation needed] Released as a single soon after, “Black Slacks” became a local hit and slowly built-up national recognition as the group set out on a tour that crisscrossed the U.S. several times over, also performing on The Nat King Cole Show, American Bandstand, and The Ed Sullivan Show. “Black Slacks” remained on the U.S. charts for over four months (a rarity at that time), peaking at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 late in 1957.

What could be cooler than black slacks, a derby, and a rainbow tie? Love it, Susan! Fun choice for this week’s SLS.

This was new to me too Sue. They had so much fun in the fifties didn’t they? Who would have thought you could write a song about black slacks. Great choice of song and back story β˜ΊοΈπŸ’•

Yeah. Seems like peeps can make a song out of anything. Remember in the 70s where some guy wrote a song about putting his blue jeans on. And then there was an R&B song about some dude who wanted peanut butter. The 50s do look like fun. My brother grew up during that time and he has some awesome stories to tell. Anyway, glad you enjoyed!

I have been to Spartanburg, SC but everything else in your post was now to me. I enjoyed the song that you selected Susan.

Thank you, Jim. I think Black Slacks is probably new to everyone. I used to listen to an oldies radio station. That’s how I know some obscure music. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Although why I have called you Jilly Bean I have no idea…it’s my age! Sorry Susan. πŸ€—πŸ’›

That’s okay. I like Jilly Bean. I had a friend in Monroe, LA who called Jellybeans Jilly Beans.

I never heard this or of the Sparkletones. How could that be? My mom was a teen in the 50’s so I thought I had a pretty good catalogue of music from that period.

I used to listen to oldies stations before they all went away. Guess I was born a little too late. Although I’m still old. LOL!
