Nature can play cruel tricks sometimes. Imagine being a dog with your own brain but having to share one body with two other dogs, each with their own brains.
That’s exactly what happened here, with Nick, Pete, and Gus. The only thing they have in common aside from one body, is that they are each committed to guarding their human’s home.
Nick likes to chase chariots, but Pete and Gus do not. Pete likes to roll in stinky stuff — the nastier, the better — but Nick and Gus do not. Gus likes to play (nicely) with cats, but Nick and Pete are afraid of them due to an unfortunate incident during puppyhood.
Most of the time, things don’t work out so well and nobody gets to do what they want.
On the brighter side, all three of them like to eat and sleep at the same time. That is the only bright side.
One afternoon, Nick and Gus got into a tiff over who had killed a squirrel and therefore, who was entitled to it. Nick thought he should have it, and Gus thought it should be his. Poor Pete was caught in the middle and got the worst of it. In the end, nobody got the squirrel because the human came out and took it away. Pete was the only one who wasn’t disappointed.
There is a serious side to this story as well. There is a female dog who lives in the area. Her name is Penelope, and she is a beautiful Afghan hound. Her long blonde hair really does it for Nick, Pete, and Gus. They are over-the-moon crazy about her. Sometimes she escapes from her human and parades around the neighborhood alone. The last time she came over things got out of control and now Penelope is pregnant. There’s no telling who is to blame since it is impossible to determine who intended what and why. Did Nick really care for her and Gus was just getting a quicky? Maybe Pete didn’t care one way or the other. Or any combination of the above.
Penelope’s human is livid and threatening to sue for puppy support. Although Penelope is the one who came over to their house and tantalized the ‘trio.’
It will be interesting to see how the puppies turn out.
