“Kellie? Hey, it’s Denise.”

“Okay. How are you?”

“No, everything’s fine. I just … gotta do something.”

There he was. There he would always be.

She pulled a tissue out of her pocket and wiped her eyes and blew her nose.

“Y’know why?” She gave him time to answer even though she knew he wouldn’t. “‘Cause you’re my dad.”

  1. Thanks for using the 3TC. I played Cribbage with my Dad every night for years, and we also used to play duets on the piano. Happy memories. Lovely post.

    1. Thank you, Di. My mom and I played Scrabble. I still have her old Scrabble board from the early 50s. My dad died when I was 18. We didn’t get along very well. He wanted a boy.

      1. Mum and Dad thought I was going to be a boy and were going to call me Robert. I turned up, and I;m glad they didn’t add an ‘a’ and instead named me from the lead character of the book Mum was reading about girl and her horse.
Hubby and I used to play Scrabble a lot, but we haven’t played for years since a friend ruined it for us because he lost and accused us of cheating! (He’s almost 80 now)

      2. I was supposed to be Yanek, Polish for John. Then, it was Mary Katherine. Thank God my mom insisted on Susan. For Susan Hayward. Cheating at Scrabble? Too bad he ruined the game for you guys.

      3. He did the same for Cribbage, acting like a spoilt brat. Sadly the friendship of over 30 years just ‘died’ and contact is a Christmas card, but probably only if he receives one from us first. .

      4. It’s a shame to let a long friendship die over a game. Some people fail to grow up, I guess.

      5. Sadly there’s quite a bit more to the end of the friendship as winning or losing games didn’t matter to us.

      7. Know what you mean Susan. He actually seemed to be distancing himself from his friends from school (50 years plus) as well. He’s not the guy I remember……….. his wife was my bestie and she died in 2000 after fighting breast cancer for 2 years.
