Terence had been searching for her for most of his life — ever since they were separated by that horrid tsunami.
He remembered that day well. The water was so calm, too calm as it turned out. They were playing with empty seashells on the beach. The sun was warm, but not too hot. It was one of those days that made you want to take in every detail because somehow you knew there would never be another one like it.
Too late, they noticed other creatures scattering and a feeling of dread and fear came over them. The sky turned ugly shade of gray and then it happened. An angry deluge of water sucked them from the beach and into the darkest depths of the sea, spinning wildly in different directions. The chaos seemed never-ending but eventually it stopped. The sea was calm as if nothing had happened.
Once Terence got his bearings, he realized that nothing looked familiar; he had no idea where he was. Most importantly, she was no longer with him. He’d been searching for her ever since. Even though it had been several years, he knew he’d know her when he saw her.
Though it was true that he’d grown into an adult and was able to manage without her, Terence missed her terribly.
You are never too old to stop needing your mom.
