After You

This was originally written for the D’verse poets pub vin 2014. It is now repurposed for Fandango’s Flashback Friday.

After you,

I never felt clean. No matter

how many showers or how hard

I scrubbed there always

seemed to be a smudge of filth,

a foul blemish

permeating my heart

my soul—

my very being

a putrid reminder

of you.

    1. Yeah. The thing is that I don’t remember who this was directed at. I suppose that’s a good thing!
