PUMP
PRIDE
PERIL
After putting it off for months, Teri had finally decluttered and cleaned her filthy basement. Sometime during night, the sump pump had gone out and flooded the basement. Now there was about four feet of water, and it looked like a whole new kind of disaster. Waterlogged furniture, soggy paneling, and the stench! It was like a permeating humid cloud of rotten eggs and mold,
She heaved a sigh. Teri had taken such pride in her nice, clean basement. Cleaning and organizing weren’t in her wheelhouse but she persevered as she’d planned a surprise party for her husband’s 40th birthday that weekend. Obviously, it would have to be canceled.
She called Samantha’s Super Sump Pump Service but the soonest they could come by was the day after tomorrow. Teri grabbed her last roll of paper towels and headed for the basement. Maybe something could be salvaged. She knew one roll of paper towels would do no good, but she had to do something. The basement stairs were slick from the moisture and humidity; Teri made it to the fifth one before slipping and sliding into the stinky pond of muck.
Fortunately, she could swim. Teri hoped that someday y she could look back of this day of utter peril and laugh, but she doubted it.
