Star-crossed and in perpetual orbit:
the Moon circling
the Earth circling
the Sun—your heart
beating
the rhythm of my soul.
Enter
the cruel eclipse:
spouses,
children!
(yours, mine
never ours).
Still,
this relentless and
unchangeable love,
our secret conflagration,
longs to burn
out loud.
The way you combine the cruel with eclipse make me think of the way the light of a love can be murdered by shadows.

The circling of heavenly bodies, the pull of gravity, the care for offspring… it’s a puzzle. Nice poem Susan, full of weight and measure.
I like the changed from heavenly objects to the life back in earth, our reality. I hope the journey together yield fruits that all parties can enjoy.
